Additional Factors to Consider in Regards to Yin/Yang and the Environment (from a 1974 article I wrote on Herbalism):

Without the sun, rain, air and other forces created by the macrocosim, the earth would not be flourishing with life. Take away the rain during a growing season and you will notice stunted growth among plants. Hence we can see at different periods of Earth's evolutionas the Earth moves closer to the sun that land masses become more solid and atmosphere, rarified gasses, etc., decrease.

We also notice the solidification and specialization of both vegetable and animal forms. Look at the next illustration and note that vegetable forms were first to evolve and provided food for the forthcoming animal kingdom. The vegetable is yin and animal is yang.

As the Earth rotates around the sun in its annual orbit, it moves beneath approximately one constellation per month. Each constellation has its own characteristic energy force as well (stars are suns, right - yang). The energy force of the sun is mirrored by the moon and depending upon the moon's position with the sun, it will create a characteristic force or influence upon the Earth.
